Tow truck driver called to OUI scene, arrested on same charge

Police recently arrested two people for driving under the influence of alcohol in separate but strangely related incidents. Both individuals were booked at a Massachusetts' facility and later bailed on their personal recognizance. OUI charges are quite serious and, depending on a defendant's line of work, may even compromise one's ability to maintain gainful employment.

Police called an area towing company to retrieve the vehicle of a woman they had just arrested for drunk driving. It is not clear what circumstances led to the arrest of the 51-year-old woman, although it does not appear as if she was involved in an accident. When the tow truck driver arrived, police noticed something a bit off -- he also appeared to be intoxicated.

Witnesses allegedly spotted the 25-year-old truck driver swerving across the road before he reached the scene, with at least one person reporting that they saw him cross the center white line. He was also apparently seen veering off the right hand side of the street, where he narrowly avoided hitting a pole. A journalist also claims that they saw this erratic behavior and used their dash cam to record the truck.

The original driver is charged with OUI, while the truck driver faces allegations of OUI, negligently operating a motor vehicle and committing marked lanes violations. These types of charges can proceed rather quickly, which catches some Massachusetts defendants off guard. As such, it is usually advisable for defendants to begin criminal defense preparations as early on in the process as possible.
