Co-parenting not working out for reality TV star

Many Massachusetts parents struggle to settle into a new custody routine, especially when there is a troubled relationship between estranged parents. It seems that navigating co-parenting is a challenge for many, even those with the resources to pay for child care, legal assistance, and transportation between two locales. That truth is evidenced in the current child custody struggles of reality TV star Nicole Curtis of "Rehab Addict."

The 41-year-old mother is faced with a child custody filing by her son's father, who is asking the court for sole custody of the 3-year-old. While the parties have had their differences in the past, this newest filing takes matters to a different level. The father claims that Curtis is an unfit mother.

In making that claim, the boy's father claims that Curtis refuses to facilitate a strong bond between father and son. He points to an incident on Father's Day during which he had to drive to multiple locations over more than two hours to gain access to his son for a scheduled visit. He also argues that this is not the only time he's had difficulty spending time with the child.

The former couple have had previous child custody struggles, but this time the stakes have been raised now that the boy's father is asking for sole custody. If he's able to make a strong argument in court that Curtis is unable or unwilling to adhere to their existing co-parenting agreement, it's possible that he could prevail. If nothing else, the court may alter the existing agreement to grant him more time with his son. Many Massachusetts parents can relate to how challenging it is to engage in co-parenting when there's tension between parties.
