Massachusetts man faces OUI/DUI charges

A man in Brockton is believed to have been drunk and under the influence of drugs at the time of a fatal car accident. Massachusetts prosecutors say the man was test driving a truck at the time of the accident, which claimed the life of another man. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges of OUI/DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He was slated to appear for a dangerousness hearing on June 25.

According to Massachusetts law enforcement, the 22-year-old man was reportedly trying to test the performance of his vehicle when the June 15 accident occurred. It appears the man may have been speeding in an attempt to pass the car driven by a 54-year-old Brockton man. The younger man smashed his vehicle into the second car, killing its driver.

Police on the scene estimate the man was traveling around three times the speed limit when the crash happened. They also say he was under the influence of marijuana, cocaine and alcohol at the time of the crash, but details about how they came to this determination were notably absent from the report. The man was arrested and was being held without bail ahead of his June 25 hearing.

Thankfully, the man is being represented by a defense attorney in his upcoming hearings and trials. OUI/DUI charges are very serious in the state of Massachusetts, especially when they contribute to a fatality. If the man is found guilty, he could go to jail for years. His defense team will work to build a strong case against these charges by carefully reviewing any evidence presented by the prosecution that could corroborate their claims.
