Violent crimes: Man facing prison for armed robbery, assault

A 37-year-old man has been given a prison sentence after having been found guilty on two separate charges. The Massachusetts resident was accused of two violent crimes: armed robbery and domestic assault. The charges stemmed from incidents in October and November of this year. The man was found guilty of physically assaulting his former girlfriend and of using a knife to rob a store about a month afterwards.

The accused pleaded guilty in court of vandalizing property and of assaulting a family or household member. Prosecutors told the court the man caused damage to his former girlfriend's apartment after he pushed an air conditioning unit in to climb through her window. The woman, who was at home at the time, was apparently pushed and punched by the accused who also trashed her TV sets before leaving the residence.

The man was taken into custody in November in connection with the armed robbery of a store. He apparently used a knife to threaten an employee before fleeing with some cash.  Police said when they arrested the accused they found the same amount of cash the clerk said the man stole from the store. He was also wearing a jacket that matched the one the store clerk told police the suspect was wearing.

The accused also pleaded guilty to robbing the store.  He was sentenced to between three and four years in state prison for the robbery. He was also sentenced to two years in prison for the assault. That sentence will run concurrently with his prison sentence.

Massachusetts residents who are charged with violent crimes have the right to seek advice from an attorney. A lawyer may be able to offer guidance to his or her clients on how to best aggressively fight the charges. An attorney may, after reviewing the evidence, find a way to either reduce the charges or even them dropped entirely.
