Real estate likely to factor into Matt Lauer's divorce

Many Massachusetts readers have followed the career of NBC's "Today" host Matt Lauer. In recent months, Lauer has made headlines not for his professional life, but for his personal life. After allegations of sexual misconduct within the workplace, Lauer was fired from his position at NBC. Shortly thereafter his wife, Annette Roque, filed for divorce. Now, many fans will watch as the couple negotiates a settlement that will include a significant volume of wealth as well as multiple real estate holdings.

The couple have been married for 20 years, and this isn't their first brush with divorce. Roque filed for divorce in 2006, but withdrew that petition just weeks later. She was also rumored to be considering divorce in 2014, before rumors began swirling about her husband's workplace behavior.

Matt Lauer's estimated earnings over his long career at NBC could be in excess of $100 million. The couple owns several homes, including two currently on the market. For the time being, it appears that the couple is attempting to negotiate a divorce settlement outside of court. They share three young children, so child support is likely to factor into those negotiations.

As most Massachusetts residents understand, many celebrity couples go to great lengths to settle their divorce outside of court. That allows the family to retain some degree of privacy, which is especially important to those who have young children. In this case, Matt Lauer has received an enormous amount of media attention over his allegedly behavior in the workplace. At this point, he may want to avoid additional attention as he negotiates how to divide real estate and other assets during his divorce.
