Massachusetts man charged with drug crimes

Illegal drugs are related to crime in many different ways, such as possession, manufacturing and distribution. Individuals found in possession of an illegal drug with the intent to sell could face devastating criminal penalties if found guilty. After a recent drug bust, a Massachusetts man may soon face these penalties should his drug crimes charges hold up in court.

In the process of a regular investigation of ongoing drug activity, Boston officers stopped a pickup truck and seized numerous drugs from inside the vehicle, including a variety of marijuana-laced candy and pills, chocolate bars, and Rice Krispies treats. Officers arrested the driver and charged him with possession with intent to distribute class B, C, and D drugs. While awaiting trial, it will be imperative to determine the precise amount of the substance in order to possibly reduce the impact of any potential penalties should a conviction be secured later in criminal court.

Defending against these charges is certainly possible but also can be a challenge. Based on the circumstances of the crime and any previous charges, a judge may be limited in the ability to make discretionary decisions. Should these charges hold up in court, it may be hard for the man obtain a job, receive any government assistance and face additional sanctions such as a suspended driver's license.

The legal battle could be challenging for Massachusetts residents facing similar drug crimes charges, especially when the charges include the intent to sell or redistribute. However, a skilled attorney may begin building a defense around the traffic stop and any of the man's rights the police may have violated during the search of his vehicle. Understanding individual rights may help in building a strong defense.
